Class of 2013 "Road Trip" of Northern California (May 17th - May 21st)
THANK YOU to the entire Big Springs community for the tremendous support of our students. The class of 2013 would like to thank all of the parents, staff, and community members for years of support. Without all of you, this trip would not be possible.
There are literally too many people to thank. However, there are some people who the 8th grade class would like to recognize with specific appreciation. Thank you so much to the following people who have gone "ABOVE AND BEYOND" with both time and financial commitments in the raising the more than $4,200 for this class trip: Mr. Pindell, Ms. Kemp, Janet, Jesi, Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Schafer, Mrs. Trejo, Mrs. Hosler, the entire BSE Staff and School Board, Parents of the Class of 2013, and especially Mrs. Varga and Mrs. Rizzo. Thank you!
Sincerely,
The Class of 2013

Chase Suites Breakfast on Saturday Morning
After a modest evening's rest, the group enjoys a full breakfast in our private dining area. During breakfast, each student and chaperone were asked to write about Day #1 (visit the "Student Blog" link). At about 9:45am, we were on our way to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for opening weekend. Students will spend the day riding various roller coasters, walking the beach, and attending a "Gin Blossoms" concert on the beach later this afternoon. Stay tuned all weekend for more Student Blogs, Photos, and fun times!
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (5-18-13)
Check out a beautiful day in Santa Cruz. From roller coasters & laser tag to concerts and water rides, Saturday had something for EVERYONE! We spent quite a bit of time at the park, and decided to head back to our rental van when they shut down the power and locked the doors at 11:00pm. After meeting Santa Cruz' finest at the single largest DUI checkpoint I have ever seen (I believe that ALL OF THEM were there, and the kids were SO EXCITED to see what Mr. Hosler had done wrong *no such luck!), we braved the windy roads up HWY 17 & arrived back at the hotel just after midnight.
It'll be a quick turnaround, as the kids are right back at it tomorrow morning @ Raging Waters. But for now, please enjoy a sample of what kept us all so busy and excited today, Day #2 of our 4-day "Road Trip" for the Class of 2013.

Raging Waters, San Jose (5-19-13)
Day #3 was a multi-event day, with a coinciding "Birthday Celebration" for Conner and Amber, who share a May 7th birthday. As a surprise for the two, Mrs. Rizzo generously arranged for a birthday party at Raging Waters today. All enjoyed a birthday BBQ lunch of hamburgers and hotdogs, applesauce, chips, and an unlimited supply of water (get it?), and soda. The "cake" was also provided, as a giant chocolate chip cookie.
Mr. and Mrs. Rizzo provided passes for the day, as well as lunch for everyone. It was a wonderful treat, and greatly appreciated!
The day was a nice change-of-pace as students and chaperones alike enjoyed a beautiful day in the sun. The kids even took advantage of a "Wipeout" style course (*See the ABC television show), and challenged one another to some friendly games. Additionally, the "Endless Lagoon", "Wave Pool", "Shotgun", "Bombs Away", "Barracuda", and several other rides were a fun way to spend the day together.

Class of 2013 "Down Time"
After a long day at the water park, the class decided to stay in for dinner on Sunday evening.
Upon returning from a day at Raging Waters, the students spent the late afternoon and early evening swimming in the hotel swimming pool, soaking in the hot tub, and "freshening up". We took advantage of our beautiful suites, and made dinner for the group in on of the girls' suites. We enjoyed a nice italian dinner of lasagna, cheesy bread, and corn. While eating, the group checked out a movie from the hotel DVD library, and watched "Oceans Eleven".
Following dinner, the group was treated to an "Ice Cream Sunday Bar", with gallons of ice cream and toppings of every imaginable flavor. Following dessert, the group began to fade, and by 10:00pm, several students could be heard snoring and were passed out on the floor.
It was a low key evening, and the students absolutely loved it as much as any activity thus far. Most were headed off to bed before 11:00pm, exhausted and totally spent, but happy and content. Day #4 and the final leg of our trip concludes on Monday, with hours of traveling north, group meals, and an IMAX 3D Movie in Redding.

Road Trip! (5-17 thru 5-21)
There was no lack of food on our trip. The kids ate well, with something different at each stop along the way. From Hot Dogs & Hamburgers to Pizza and Ranch/Bacon/Cheesy French Fries, all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
This photo was taken at a Northern California staple, Granzellas in Williams, CA. At this meal, the students shared appetizers (THANK YOU KRISTEN AND DEE) of French Fries, Cheese Sticks and Buffalo Wings, and then enjoyed pizza, soda, and Italian Ice Cream for dessert.
The trip home seemed to take a bit longer for most, in large part due to the exhaustion of all who took the trip. Monday's activities were limited to sleeping in, traveling home, and stops at Granzellas in Williams and the Mt. Shasta Mall in Redding.
After four LONG but fun days, the students returned to Big Springs School on time, arriving at 9:30pm.
